The newly established "Day Off Chronicles" are usually conjured up on a Tuesday, and hope to follow the sort of randomness that many have come to expect from "little ol' me" now and then:
A GregBlog Note:
In my recent attempt at a resurgence back into the "thought provoking" world of GregBlogging, one can obviously see the dependence I have on the Scripture. And this is not a bad thing. In fact, there is an emerging method to my journey through 2013 that I would like to document and share.
I am in my final year of formation towards becoming a Catholic Deacon, and we are focusing heavily on homiletics, that is, learning how to give a homily, or as some would call it, a sermon. I just learned that there is a difference between the two, but I'll focus on that some other day.
The key to my dependence on Scripture, besides wanting to go to heaven, is to begin to training myself to focus on the points necessary to convey a specific message. When it relates to staying focused, t's not easy being me, so training is necessary. Step one in my training is to write, and to do so on a manageable topic, without the need to cover it all. Step two will be to begin sharing this message with my peers as we gather monthly for formation. The writing allows for me to not only focus, but build content and organize the messages that Christ is conveying in the Gospel, and the teachings of the tradition that is my Church.
Yawn... Right? I hope not. I'm up for the challenge to bring the Good News to you, and a little bit of "Greg" to the Good News! Now to the point of today's post. On Tuesday, a day off for me, I hope to continue GregBlogging, but take the day off of my "secret homiletic journey", and just blab on a random topic or two. Today, its two...
Lance: Here we go again. Its time for the American public to confront its priorities, short-term memory, and its ability to forgive (or not). We're all waiting for Oprah to reveal the video of her interview with Lance Armstrong, and we already know what he is going to say after years of denying what we have known for a while now... "I'm sorry for doing the things that you all think are wrong (taking performance enhancing drugs), and now that I know that you all think it is wrong (because I'm not sure I ever did), I will stop doing the thing that you all have deemed wrong, and try to make sure that you understand that its never been personal... Only business." Then, like most folks, except Lindsey Lohan, Lance will disappear for a while, and in about three years, the "come back" will begin, and tug at our collective heart-strings as he attempt to win the coveted "Gold Cup" of some sort, signaling his return to hero status. We've seen it regarding other issues with a few other athletes like Michael Vick and Ray Lewis. Remember?
The Random Thought on My Day Off: Less talk Lance... Time to rebuild your life with enhancements like good moral decisions, living the truth, and continuing the real work of that decent side of your relatively great life, the care and compassion of taking care of others. (LIVESTRONG)
Espresso: A January, rainy and cold day needs a shot or two of espresso to make the afternoon possible. I guess I've already admitted to my tendency for co-dependency.
The Random Thought on My Day Off: Be careful Greg... The relaxation thing can truly be addicting!
