Good Morning World... Here's the Work of Our Hearts!
Let’s not be confused here… That is St. Paul’s confident claim, not mine. But in it there lies a mission laid out for us to follow. A simplified goal in the face of overthinking what Faith calls us to be and do. Maybe it’s this: In all that I choose to do, the gospel can flow through, and work through and shine forth a good news that cannot be concealed, therefore bringing it into our hearts. May it be so in our lives and in our work this upcoming week, strengthening us for the journey that lies ahead!
Monday: “Jesus preached the Gospel of the Kingdom and cured every disease among the people.”(cf. Mt 4:23) This is the work that lies ahead of us today. Are you up for the attempt? Don’t limit your answer based on what appears to be impossible, or something that is “not your job.” Preaching and curing can happen in many ways if you would just begin with love!

Tuesday: “You nullify the word of God in favor of your tradition that you have handed on." (Mk 7:13) First of all it’s interesting that my FB App now allows me to click a button that says “Write with AI,” which could be exactly the point of Jesus’ teaching in this verse from Mark. We do have work to be done, and it is oh so easy to pick up on the latest, trendiest way to do it in the most expeditious and cool manner ever. But guess what? The AI is not the Gospel. The trend is not always the way it was meant to be. Take the essence of love’s Good News (God’s Word) and stick to the basics of how to share it… Actually meet someone face to face and to show you care!
Wednesday: “The mouth of the just murmurs wisdom. Commit to the Lord your way; trust in God, and God will act [and] make justice dawn for you like the light; bright as the noonday shall be your vindication.” (Ps 37: 5-6, 30) Many opinions and many arguments can be settled with this simple call to action. Do what is just and all shall be well… Right?
Thursday: “You bring us joy by the light of another day, let the morning star rise in our hearts. Lord, bless us and bring us close to you.” (From Today’s Morning Prayer) As we offer our work this week, let us also lift up the work of others who simply want peace in our world, offering a healing touch to those who are trapped in the darkness of war and despair. May we too reach into the hearts of those we serve, helping them with their own battles and their desire for God’s healing love. Amen!
Friday: “Ephphatha!” (that is, “Be opened!”) - Mk 7:34 May the Lord help us to hear his Word. May the work that we do speak volumes to those we serve!
Saturday: “Deep waters cannot quench love, nor floods sweep it away. Were one to offer all he owns to purchase love, he would be roundly mocked.” (Sng 8:7) If our work is centered in love, then that work is never in vain. Rest this weekend and enjoy the notion that all you were able to do this past week has truly made a difference. Well done!
