I've met my obligation, and have accepted the "Bucket Challenge"!
But is that it? Is this the way we are going to cure diseases like ALS? No doubt the money is pouring in, and the ALS Foundation(s) will be forever grateful for the generosity of those willing to pour water on their heads. But for the record, I'd like to highlight the real challenges that are before us, and they don't involve money!
PRAY: Please pray for and the support people and their families stricken with ALS, and other debilitating diseases that have no cure. The list is a mile long, and there is no limit or priority as to who should receive such prayers and support. Their illness demands our love and service!
DO THE RIGHT THING: Consider the ethics of organized charities, and demand that they follow reasonable expectations in pursuing their research and their service! Money donated should be money spent on finding the cure! Decisions made in the research should reflect your morals, and your willingness to assist in finding the cure. High expectations like those outlined in these blog articles "The Moral Problem with the ALS Bucket Challenge" and "The No Ice Bucket Challenge" should be considered as a legitimate part of the discussion, offering the even greater challenge to consider right and wrong ways of doing things! But please keep in mind that many organizations do too much amazing work to just be categorized within a political or issue-based debate, as you see in this article. Moral/Academic debate and a concerted effort to support are two different opportunities to learn about God's will!
PURSUE THE BEST: The intentions of the millions participating in this latest string of positivity is amazing, and only serves to show the goodness of God's people. Now that the bucket is open and full, let's learn and share what is truly great about our humanity... Let's continue to pursue only the BEST ways in helping one another. Let's celebrate LIFE, and ACCEPT the challenge to truly LOVE one another through our meaningful actions, shared especially with those who are in most need of our CHARITY!
