Rise and Walk!

Today's Readings

"Peter said, “I have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you: in the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk.” Acts 3:6

If you went to Mass today , you recognized one of THE most popular parts of the Gospel... The Walk to Emmaus.  This was the moment when the resurrected Christ first came to us in the breaking of the bread.  But notice (when you read the story) that there is a journey involved.  This journey is one that allows us to walk with, talk to, ask questions of, and be taught by the Lord Himself, whether we recognize Him or not.

This is to say, that we all have our own way to that moment when the Lord reveals Himself to us.

Notice too that Peter and the Apostles are constantly inviting everyone they meet to simply BEGIN this journey.  Those who accepted this invitation were baptized (On one day 3000 were welcomed - cf. Acts 2:41), and their lives were set in motion with Christ in them, waiting to be revealed in their worship, their actions, and in their faith journey.  It was the Apostles who were now called to walk with them, talk with them, discuss their questions and teach them about the Way of the Lord.  In the early Church, they gathered in homes for the breaking of the bread, and for many it was there that they found the Christ they had been journeying with on their own road.

So like Peter, let me say that I too have neither silver nor gold, but what I do have I give you...

In the name of Jesus Christ the Nazorean, rise and walk.

Peace!
