THANKS DAVE!
I have always been the quintessential kid of the TV Age... Like so many, much of my life is defined by the very thing that has caused society so much turmoil, and yet so much joy. Being stuck in front of the "tube" is something that I can definitely live with!
I remember the last episodes of MASH, St. Elsewhere, Seinfeld, and the like. Like it or not, these moments define us all, as it is what we watched, and what we'll miss!
Almost 23 years ago, the night before I married Karen,
Bette Midler said goodbye to Johnny Carson:
Since then, the Lord has sent us many blessings, and has initiated quite a force in the love that has overtaken us. It's certainly not because of Bette singing to Johnny, but I will always mark the beginning of this dose of God's grace by remembering the moment when we all huddled around the TV to cry with my Dad and Johnny, waving goodbye to a great moment in our lives, only to say hello to something truly amazing... Mr. and Mrs. (and now Deacon & amazing wife) Greg and Karen Thompson.
And now we say goodbye to David Letterman:
Dave Letterman kept me company with his short lived morning show way back when, as I recovered from a surgery and had to stay home from school to recuperate. I was supposed to be doing school work, but instead, accidentally tuned in. :) Letterman's Late Night Show began, as I began college. Yes, I did stay up too late, and I did learn the art of working on too little sleep, thanks to David Letterman. But like Dave said in his final thank you before signing off, "Save a little for my funeral."
So I won't wax on about the greatness or the significance of a sometimes not so great late-night show (Dave's words, not mine). After all, its just a TV show! But in the milestone that is the movement of a 33 year TV career, I'll simply wonder... Another end, brings on yet another beginning.
I am excited!
