I've recognized an underlying, and maybe depressing thought among believers. It would seem that we live in fear of being one or two steps away of realizing that all of this "faith stuff" is going to come tumbling down. I see this pervasive need of ours that our understanding of God has to be reassured in our stockpiling examples, evidence or hints of His love. It's like our whole life and faith journey is a trial of our Creator who sits awaiting judgement from us, the jury. If the evidence continues to support Him, then we judge favorably. But when there's a hint that all of this might be... Well, you know... Ummm... questionable, then we the jury must find God guilty of not being what we thought Him to be.
My concern during prayer this morning is that we NOT spend our days building a case to prove (or disprove) all that God is (or is not). My autograph from the late artist and ragamuffin, Rich Mullins simply says "Be God's." My friend Marsha introduced the thought in my live that I should "Just Be." Together this means that I should relax and just be the person God created me to be... Not a member of a jury charged with creating a god to be what we need it to be.
I woke up this morning with a song in my head, "All the Way to Kingdom Come", by Rich Mullins. The Chours of the song gives me solace, as it's God who loves me, solely for the purpose of allowing me to be (and love in return)... Here's the lyric:
We didn't know what love was until it came
He gave love a face, and gave it a name,
And gave it away like the sky gives the rain and sun.
We were looking for heroes, He came looking for the lost,
We were searching for glory, and He showed us the cross.
Now we know what love is, 'cause He loved us...
All the way to kingdoms come.
So if we allow God to be, and we can be God's, and just be (ourselves). And if we can remove this pressure of "needing to know for sure", then the love that's given like the rain and the sun can allow us to simply be; and be God's "all the way to kingdom come."
Hear the entire song...
