It is now the hour for you to wake from sleep, for our salvation is closer than when we first accepted the faith. The night is far spent; the day draws near. Let us cast off deeds of darkness and put on the armor of light. Romans 13:11-12
In my faith, Sunday was supposed to be a day for rejoicing, for "salvation is closer" than we think!
Unfortunately a house fire turned tragic in my home town, and another shooting this past week in Colorado show that there continues to be an evil lurking that seems to want to zap the faith right out of me, and many believers, who just scratch their head in wonder... "Why does this keep happening?
The home town tragic house fire has become even more horrific as we are learning that a mother murdered her son Randel, left him in the cold water of a near by lake, came home, set the house ablaze, then took her own life. Within the same timeframe, in Colorado, the all too common high school shooting event played itself out, like others before... Senseless violence and a cowardly disrespect for the innocent and the gift of life! Where's the Joy on this Joyous Third Sunday of Advent? Where's the explanation that makes it all make sense? I DON'T KNOW!
I do know that we again must endure the speculations and the mystery as to why another teen would resort to violence just to carry out a demented plan for revenge. I do know that we must again listen, learn, remember and rise above the evil of anger and rage. I do know that a young girl struggles and continues to cling to life in a Colorado hospital, and I do know that a little eight year old boy has been taken into the arms of a loving Father, gone from this world all too soon. I do know that I am called to have and to share faith that LOVE is stronger than cowardly acts of violence, and I am sure that with Christ, "the night is far spent; [and] the day draws near."
The Apostle Paul proclaimed, "It is now the hour for you to wake from sleep, for our salvation is closer than when we first accepted the faith." Darkness and evil will NEVER win, no matter the tragedy or cowardice act. The light of God, and the power of courage and love seen through a Colorado teenager fighting in a hospital, and a child of God now resting with his Daddy in heaven are the reality that I will focus on today. +God Bless you Randel!
