“What you are going to do, do quickly.” - John 13:27
So who do you relate with more,
Judas or Peter?
The Betrayal BY Judas: The story needs no recounting here. Judas was obvious from the start. Things were not moving in the direction that he saw fit, and this "whole thing" would come unraveled if he didn't act now, and act fast! 30 pieces seemed to be an adequate amount to "save the world", or at least his part of it.
The Betrayal BY Peter: Peter looked at Jesus square in the eye and said, “I will lay down my life for you.” (John 13:37) But Peter couldn't have foreseen the moments that were to come, where the fear of losing his life would overtake his seemingly unshakable promise. It would seem for Peter that associating with The Way of Jesus Christ was easy at times, except when things got difficult.
Both betrayed the challenge that was put before them, and both felt the effects of that betrayal, for they were very aware of what had been asked of them as disciples, and what they knew to be the Way to Salvation.
Judas, Peter, You and I... We've heard the Good News time and time again, and let's be honest... It's not "rocket science"! We know the Way, but we just can't follow through with our commitment to walk the journey to its completion. So are you impatient like Judas, and want to hurry things along, or are you weak like Peter, unable to stand up to the fact that YOU are the one being called to lead the rest of The Way?
Let's be honest again... GREG IS BOTH! I sometimes want my own way, so I don't have to live up to the pressure of leading The Way! Today's steps through Holy Week offer us all the challenge to think about the possibility that God's Way might be the best way, and our job is to be courageous in trying to live that Way every day! So to quote the Gospel, "What you are going to do, do it quickly." (John 13:27)
Now let's get back to the business of understanding what it is that God has in store for you and I...
Just keep walking!
