The Right to Choose

Today's Readings

God is not unjust so as to overlook your work and the love you have demonstrated for his name by having served and continuing to serve the holy ones.  We earnestly desire each of you to demonstrate the same eagerness for the fulfillment of hope until the end, so that you may not become sluggish, but imitators of those who, through faith and patience, are inheriting the promises. Hebrews 6: 10-12

During yesterday's GregCast, something interesting came out of my mouth.  No jokes. (I know it's a shock when I say something interesting.). At one point, reflecting on today's anniversary of Roe v. Wade, and recognizing the National Day of Prayer for the Legal Protection of the Unborn, I said, "I support your right to choose!  I just want you to make good choices now, so you don't have to make bad choices later."

In the decades of debate over Abortion, the language often points to choices, as if this is a bad thing.  On the contrary, it's the very thing that makes us human, and the very thing that drives one's faith journey.  So the problem is not "choice", but rather the choices we make (or not.)

Make good choices living your life, and allow others to live to make their own good choices.  Making the right decision now, avoids a whole lot of problems later.  I think that's why us "preacher types" spend so much time on this here and now "morality-thing".

I'll let today its anniversary, and its purpose, speak for itself, but I'll say it again, "Go ahead and choose... Just make good choices!"
