In this life, some weeks are more difficult than others. For me, this is not one of those weeks. I am writing this morning with a gentle breeze out of the southeast on my shoulders, as I sip coffee on the balcony of my little beach bungalow on the "Redneck Riviera".
Meanwhile, back home, my friends and family, and millions of others are about to walk into a day of record heat... Global warming is set to hit with a vengeance! I'd like to think that I was so smart and savvy, that I would have looked at the long range forecast, and said to the family, "Load up the station wagon, we're outta here!". It's the luck of the draw, for like everybody down here, we're trying to squeeze a lifetime into just a few days (cf. Jimmy Buffett's "Cowboy in the Jungle"). That same luck, remember, brought us down to flirt with a potential Tropical Storm named Debby at the beginning of the week, so once again, you just take a chance on such things and simply GO... When its your turn of course. And when you've saved the money. And when you can get the time off. And when all the schedules in the house align like the stars at the end of time. You just pick up and GO!
But, that doesn't change the fact that while i enjoy my coffee and the breeze, others are enduring the heat, and no, they can't just leave. So God bless them!
On that note, there are still others who are being forced from their homes because of the extreme heat of wild fires! Many in Colorado have lost everything, and others sit by, anxiously awaiting their own "luck of the draw"! I am praying for their well being as well! While I cannot change the outcome that awaits them, I can offer my prayerful support. I hesitate to write this, with my being comfy on a beach somewhere, but prayer is prayer, and that's what I've got to give! God bless Colorado!
Finally, speaking of prayers, I have a friend who's name is Jim. He has suffered a massive stroke, and his life will be changed forever! He is in ICU, and all of our prayers are need now. Remember, prayers are prayers, and not magic spells to change reality, so I pray for an openness, and a willingness to accept and adapt. Jim has certainly lived his life as a servant, and as a great Dad and caretaker of our faith. He is now at the whim of God's love and healing embrace. God bless him and his family!
My prayer (and hopefully yours) is that all stay aware of God's presence in THIS moment. He is with us through heat, fire, ailment, and even a nice "Bama Breeze". (Jimmy Buffett again!). For as the saying goes, "If you can't stand the heat, say a quick prayer or two." I think I made that one up... Well anyway, God bless all of us. "Breathe in, breathe out, move on!" (JB)
