EVERYTHING

"He must increase, I must decrease" John 3:30

This morning the thought that strikes me is that I am ask to give... Give time, money, service, and everything else I own to the Lord. Wow, that a lot, but at the same time it's not a lot, because I don't have that much stuff to give. There's not a lot of energy in this body of mine, nor is there money in the account. After serving last week's Vacation Bible School (dressing up as a Panda Bear no less) I'm spent. It's a tad over dramatic, but it reminds me of a favorite line from the song "God" by The Police, "How can I turn the other cheek, it's black and bruised and torn?"

Now that I'm done whining like a baby, the morning thought leads me to wonder if this whole "giving thing" is more about the "everything" and less about "the stuff". Yes, there are others who have more time, money and energy than Greg. Take that girl from the Alabama tornado relief effort "Toomers for Tuscaloosa", for example. She has been working and posting and organizing thousands of people and maybe even millions of dollars that have gone to the people of Alabama who have been most effected by April tornados. It's an amazing act of giving, and a great example of directing a lot of "stuff" to the people who need the help the most. But the example is not about amounts, it's about the fact that the person behind the creation of the Facebook group, and the many people who help, are virtually nameless. It's only about the names of the people who are in need. On top of that, the storm damage is almost two months past, and while it's off the front page of the paper, and no longer on the 6 o'clock news... Many unsung heroes are continuing to give EVERYTHING to the people who need the most.

So today is about EVERYTHING. We need to give what we have so that "He may increase, and we may decrease". (cf. John 3:30). Don't worry about the "what, where or when"' just give it all, and give when you can!
