On the High Seas!

“I urge you now to keep up your courage; not one of you will be lost, only the ship.” (Acts 27: 22)

The Christian Church, and all of its interpretations, similarities and differences, are probably more united this time of year that at any other time thanks to a concept called Vacation Bible School, and the people at Group Publishing somewhere in Colorado. During the Summer, many children across this great landscape of ours are being dropped off at churches up and down the highways for a week of fun, games, Bible stories and of course singing. Most of those churches have employed the resources of Group Publishing’s yearly version of Vacation Bible School. Over the years, the themes have ranged from the wild west to the arctic north, to the jungles of the south, and even outer space.. Here’s a list of themes for the last 15 years:

1996- Vacation Bible Ship
1997- Wild West Frontier Theme Park
1998- Space Mission Bible Camp
1999- Treasure Hunt (Jungle Theme)
2000- Holyword Studios
2001- Polar Expedition
2002- Bug Safari
2003- SCUBA
2004- Lava Lava Island
2005-Serengeti Trek
2006- Fiesta!
2007-Avalanche Ranch
2008-Powerlab
2009-Crocodile Dock
2010- High Seas Expedition

Most of these years, the mighty “VBS Juggernaught“ of Group Publishing has led the way in unifying churches of all shapes and sizes by their concentrating on the same scripture themes, songs and awesome fun games... Kids all over America go home each day knowing that much more about their faith, and shouting things like “Let’s Go” every time someone says “God’s Word is true!”

This week, we’re on the “High Seas” and we’re learning about the Apostle Paul and the last leg of his mission journey as he was freed from the chains of prison, yet stuck with the prisoners, only to sail with them, get shipwrecked and eventually offer them the hope of a loving God in Jesus Christ, en route to Rome where he defended the faith that would become our Church... And it is that Church that gathers at many a VBS across the country!

Thanks Group Publishing, and thanks “me mates” on our High Seas Adventure for sharing the love of God!
