"A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house." (Matthew 13: 57)
Easter Day #28: Growth!
As of today, I am a Candidate for the Diaconate (Ministry of Deacon) in the Diocese of Birmingham, Alabama. I, and 24 other Candidates were officially accepted at a Mass with Bishop Robert Baker this morning at the Cathedral in Birmingham. I am called to GROW over a three and a half year process of formation, and I will stay open to what the Holy Spirit has to offer. This means that my future is now in the hands of God and others!
The Gospel read at Mass this morning ended with the line above, "A prophet is not without honor except in his native place and in his own house." While I certainly will never achieve the status of Prophet, I did shutter a bit when I heard the part about having trouble with “the folks at home”! And while it seems a bit challenging to say the least, I think this means something for us all... When we GROW, we GROW towards change. We must be open to that GROWTH taking us in a direction that makes us have to move out of our little “comfy zone”. I will be dedicated to MY HOME forever, and it is here that I will spend my every day, trying to figure out how to do what God wants me to do, but GROWTH = CHANGE, and I am embarking on a process that will change me forever. So how about indulging me a tad, and dedicate yourselves to change as well. The Holy Spirit is calling you to GROW too! How about we demand the same from our society? Easter still means NEW LIFE, and the NEW part means that something has to CHANGE, and to change we all MUST GROW! So, who’s with me?
