As a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer walked with him. Jesus then said to the Twelve, “Do you also want to leave?” Simon Peter answered him, “Master, to whom shall we go? You have the words of eternal life. We have come to believe and are convinced that you are the Holy One of God. (John 6: 66-69)
Easter Day #21 - Today’s word: Endurance!
In his letter to Timothy, Paul wrote, “I have competed well; I have finished the race; I have kept the faith.” (2 Timothy 4: 7) In the Gospel above from John, the people have been told what that race is all about, living off of Jesus Christ’s body, blood, soul and divinity Paul ran the race of faith, and ENDURED. The people who walked away, didn’t think they could run, let alone finish the race.
Christ offers what seems to be an insurmountable challenge. Follow Him, feed off of Him, and lead other others to do the same. Most will not accept, but like our “heroes”, the Apostles, we must begin as Paul began... With a YES, and then ENDURE every temptation thrown our way
Here’s a random thought for all of you who look for such things. Isn’t it interesting that John 6: 66 (those “devilish” three 6’s in a row) states that “as a result of this, many of his disciples returned to their former way of life and no longer walked with him.” Don’t give up... ENDURE the temptation!
